Kill List Essay (sorry its late i completely forgot to upload it)

What impact does media ownership have upon the range of products available to audiences in the media area you have studied?

Mad Max: Fury Roads budget was $150,000,000 and it made, $153,629,485 back from it. Village Road show Pictures is a leading Australian co-producer and co-financier of major Hollywood motion pictures, having released over 85 films since its establishment in 1986 including, The Great Gatsby, The Matrix Trilogy, The Sherlock Holmes franchise, I Am Legend, the Ocean’s series, The Happy Feet franchise, Mystic River, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Get Smart, Sex and the City 2, Gran Torino, The Lego Movie and American Sniper. Mad Max: Fury Road was produced by village roadshow pictures, this is one of the reasons why the movie did so well in the box office, because the village roadshow pictures have previously produced box office hits and have gained a reputation to do so. Another production company is ratpac- dune entertainment, which is an American motion picture financing company formed in a merger by producer-director Brett Ratner, his partner billionaire James Packer, and ratpac-Dune Entertainment's Steven Mnuchin, which provides funds to a number of Warner Bros. films. Ratpac-dune entertainment also have a reputation to produce amazing films, for example, The Hills Have Eyes, X-men, Avatar, Alvin And The Chipmunks, Diary Of A Whimpy Kid etc…The main distributer of Mad Max: Fury Road was Warner Bros,  it is an American entertainment company that produces film, television and music entertainment.

Ex Machinas budget was $15,000,000 and it made $25,440,971 back from it.DNA Films has been one of the most successful production companies that is located in the United Kingdom it has produced films like Ex Machina and 28 Days Later which have both been quite successful. Another production company which produced Ex Machina is Film 4, it is a British film production company owned by Channel Four Television Corporation. The company has been responsible for backing a large number of films made in the United Kingdom.  Film 4 have produced films like, Shaun of the dead, this is England and walk about. All of these film have been a success. Another production company which produced Ex Machina is Scott Rudin, Scott Rudin is an American film producer and a theatrical producer. He has produced films like, The Social Network, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, The Grand Budapest Hotel and many more successful movies. The main distribution company for Ex Machina is Universal Studios. Universal studios have made hundreds of extremely successful movies, one being Ex Machina, some more are, Jurassic World, Jurassic Park, Fast and Furious Series, Jaws and The Mummy.

The budget for Kill List was £500,000, it only made £26,297 back. Warp X was founded in 2005 and produces feature films like, Hush, Donkey Punch and of course Kill List. It is a digital film studio that produces feature films in the UK with budgets usually between £400,000 and £800,000. Another production company which produced Kill List is Film 4, it is a British film production company owned by Channel Four Television Corporation. The company has been responsible for backing a large number of films made in the United Kingdom.  Film 4 have produced films like, Shaun of the dead, this is England and walk about. All of these films have been a success. The fact that kill list is also produced by film four could lead us to believe that film four is not consistent is producing successful films as kill list didn’t make and profit what so ever, in fact it barely made a quarter of its money back. If this film had been created through media ownership that is worth a lot more money, then it would be possible that it would  have been more of a success. I think this because, with a larger initial budget they would have attracted bigger stars, famous directors, better effects and the film would target a larger audience.  Lower budget films are much less likely to be produced in Ultra HD or 3D.
